Forms. 14 months ago

I downloaded three different forms.

The first two were just your standard Living Wills, I guess.

The third one was a Power of Attorney.

I just skimmed through it, didn’t even bother to download it last week because I saw the word “attorney” and automatically thougth you had to get an attorney.

After reading it, I don’t think I’ll need an attorney.
It has to be notarized, though.
But I know a little house on the other side of town that we used to live in that does notarizing.

It talks about “agents”, and I think that’s just a fancy word for someone I feel would make wise decisions when it comes to my life and a hosiptal (like my parents).

But I don’t think that I’ll need both.

I think I need one or the other.

And the Power of Attorney says that my “agents” (I’ll just say parents lol) will make the decisions if I’m not in a certain state to do so myself.
And the two standard Living Will forms give me the right to decide what happens (like not being hooked up to a machine to keep me alive if I’ll just be in a vegetative state for the rest of my life, or in a coma).

Now I just need a printer!!!

I don’t know how I’m going to get a copy to my mom.
Haven’t spoken to her in months, and I don’t want her to just… you know… like open her mailbox one day and see these forms about my decisions should I ever be in a hospital like that.
So… I’ll just give copies to my dad and Katy, and keep one in my car (a user in a forum suggested that tip, just in case).

Everybody Loves Raymond. 14 months ago

I saw an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond earlier this year (I think around Summer) about a Living Will.

I thought that it was a really great idea, and although I still don’t know exactly what the form says (got online for free, ha!) because of all those big words, I still saved it and I’ll call the hospital when I can remember to see where I go from here to make it official.

With all the things that I want to do, and with just life in general, there’s not telling what can happen.
I still have to think about some big things, like being hooked up to the machine that gives you life, things like that.

I’m pretty sure about some things, though.
If something happens where I’ll be a vegetable for the rest of my life, I want to be let go.

I also want to be an organ donor.
When I was standing in line to get my driver’s license when I was seventeen, my dad told me not to check the box and started talking to two men behind us about how if you’re a donor and in an ambulance, sometimes the people will make you die on purpose to get the organs, which will get them more money.

But after one of my best friends, Paul, commited suicide a few years ago, and his family chose to have three of his organs donated and saved three children’s lives, I made my decision right then and there that I wanted to sign whatever I needed to sign to be an organ donor.

It’s amazing how certain pieces of paper can make you think really hard about life, and the things that can keep it sustained.

And also… the things about your life and your body that can help keep other people’s lives sustained.
