I was doing well with this but then I started slacking off a bit, not making my bed, throwing my clothes on the floor at night. When I have these lapses in new habits, I try to make a point of thinking about how it affects me. I had to spend more time to get cleaned up, I’m less productive when my space isn’t cleaned, etc. I hate to go backwards, but I think it’s important to use these slips to remember why I wanted to make changes in the first place.
Came home from my morning workout the other day and set a timer for 10 minutes to work on cleaning. I was happy to see that I basically just had to make my bed and put away some laundry, and the rest was just picking up a few things here and there. I was able to have everything cleaned up within the 10 minutes and then I had a couple hours to work on things I wanted to do.
I don’t have everything totally picked up, but overall things are better than they were. Before my recent vacation, I was happy that, for once, I had my room clean when I left and was able to come home from vacation to a clean space. I also try not to walk by things that are on the floor or in the wrong place when I could easily pick them up.
I’ve been really making an effort to put things away as soon as possible, especially clothes that I often used to let pile up on the floor. Like I mentioned in the last entry, taking a few seconds to put stuff away at night, even if I’m exhausted, makes a big difference. Plus, having a clean room helps me be more productive with everything else because I’m not worried about getting everything cleaned up. I won’t mark this as done for a while, though, because I’ve gotten into, and fallen out of, the habit of keeping things clean before. Let’s see how long I can keep it going!
I’ve been forcing myself to take 10 minutes before bed and put away anything that’s out and can easily be put away, especially things like dirty clothes that I often throw on the floor. Even if I am tired and don’t feel like putting away things at night, I feel much better (and am waaaay more productive!) when I wake up to a clean room.
My room is not entirely cleaned up yet. However, I work at night and often find that if I get home and have stuff on my bed, I am tired and I just push it onto the floor. Last night, I put most of the stuff away or set it aside somewhere to be properly sorted.
I feel much happier and am actually able to be productive when my space is clean. Have to remember that it’s so much easier to maintain than to clean everything.
