Surprise Presents 16 months ago

Yesterday, my little girl, AefA, came home with her daddy from visiting up north at Grandma’s house. She rushed in with a huge smile on her face as grandma had bought her all sort of school clothes and shoes. But what she did first was to hand me a bag… she had to restrain herself, because she wanted to take whatever was inside out for me. But her daddy reminded her to just hand it to me.

Inside was a dream catcher… made with wolves and a chime in the middle. I was so surprised and happy. She picked it out for me. She is so loving and thoughtful. It made my day.

This is late, but... 2 years ago

On Easter Morning… my AefA (my step-daughter’s initials initials) woke up. The first thing that rocked my boat that day, was that she was with me… she was suppose to be with her mother every weekend unless her father was home on leave according to the temp custody papers. Then the light and the look on her face when she found the Tinker Bell chair with the Barbie Fairy bag sitting there loaded with toys and books for her.

There was no basket of candy for her this year… just good stuff.

She was so shocked. She was so happy… but she asked, “Mommy, where is your basket? How come the Easter Bunny didn’t leave something for you?”

I just replied that he might have left it as someone else’s house and I just needed to find it. And then I hugged her so tightly.

Sometimes it is the small things that a child says that make a parent feel like they are on top of the world.

Something that Rocks my World as a Parent 2 years ago

Is the light in a little girl’s eyes when she woke up on Christmas Morning to see the explosion of presents under the tree.

But it wasn’t really the presents that she marveled at, it was when she climbed up to see the plate of cookies, carrots and milk that she had left for Santa… and noticed that it was gone.

She was filled with a hundred questions about how did Santa get into the house? How come the dogs didn’t bark? Where did it park his sleigh and reindeer? He must be a very sneaky fellow.

Then to top things off… she didn’t dive into her presents. The first thing she did was pick out the present that she bought for me… and give it to me.

It was a glass heart cut like a diamond. And it was etched with ”#1 Mom” on it.

WOW
