but the journey continues. My mom and brother were out of town last week and I spent 5 days driving my 88 yr old grandmother around to various appointments and errands. I did get lots of walking done, although it was quite slow! LOL.
After taking her home each day I took the dogs for a walk in a nice off-leash area I discovered that is quite wild with berries and prairie crocus. I took some pictures with my cell phone camera but haven’t figured out how to get them off there yet. ;) I didn’t have my pedometer with me so I don’t know how much distance I covered.
The important thing is I AM walking and getting out in the fresh air. I shall give myself an honourary 2 kms towards my journey. :)

I had the car this morning to run errands and on the way back home I stopped to stroll through an off-leash area with my doggy, a total of 1.5 kms or 0.93 miles. It was a lovely day. There is a ring of trees that I like in this park where the branches weave together overhead to form a canopy…very faerylike to me. As I was admiring them today I realized I have no idea what kind of trees they are. Beech? Poplar?
I’ve been meaning to learn to identify local trees and plants, so what I need now is a good but portable guidebook I can bring on my walks. Maybe I’ll start with a library copy.
So I have now crossed The Great Road from the Brandywine Bridge and am entering Tookland. :)

on a plank bridge and am approaching The Great Road. Another 2.17 miles today around the neighbourhood. :)

So tonight I went for a 3.5 km walk around the neighbourhood. Hubby and our doggy accompanied me and it was fun to look at familiar places in the ‘hood and see them as settings for LOTR. I shall take some pictures along the way. :) In the one here we are walking along a bike path at the edge of the neighbourhood and you can see downtown Calgary (er, Rivendell) in the distance).
So 3.5 km sounds good but it works out to “2.1749 miles” according to the Eowyn Challenge website. This means that after departing from Bag End I have just left the lane and am following some hedgerows south. Only 456 miles left (and no, I’m not going to figure out that distance in kms right now…too daunting!). :)

I came across this curious goal on someone else’s 43T list and it led me to discover The Eowyn Challenge:

This looks like a fun way to get myself walking (perhaps bicycling, too) on a regular basis. I’m thinking I’ll start my journey next week, as the weekend is going to be busy. Fellow travellers are welcome!
