Trader Joe's 2 years ago

I’m so glad we live near a Trader Joe’s now – their house brand of condiments contain actual sugar. :)

Whole Foods 3 years ago

I was browsing the list of unacceptable ingredients on Whole Foods’ website, and noticed that HFCS is not on it! I sent them a note via their web feedback form (http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/contact/contact.html) asking why. I got a canned response, basically saying that they know it’s not good for you but carry it anyway.

If anyone else feels like writing them a note objecting to this policy, perhaps they’ll be more likely to change it. :)

Grr 3 years ago

I needed an empty 2-liter bottle for a craft project and none of my friends drink sodapop. I went to the grocery to buy some sodapop and thought I might get some to drink instead of tossing it out. Every single bottle in that aisle had HFCS in it – every one! Even the boutique brands, club soda, gingerale, everything!

I even went to the Mexican foods aisle to look (HFCS was illegal in Mexico until recently due to their high sugarcane production there), and they all had it too.

Mmmm, relish 3 years ago

I wanted some sweet pickle relish to go with the hot dogs I bought this week. At the store, I knew that the Heinz brand had HFCS, so I looked at the others – they ALL had it. Then, like a shining beacon, I saw it. A boutique brand of sweet and hot relish, containing actual sugar. It cost a little more, but it was ten times as tasty. :)

I've been finding it *everywhere* 3 years ago

There’s HFCS in pickle relish! Jeebus! I’ve never aspired to be Martha Stewart-y, but I think I’m going to have to start making my own condiments.

Nooooooooo! 3 years ago

Just learned that the coffee creamer we use at work is chock full of HFCS. I’ll have to stop at the market and pick up some soy milk creamer tonight.

Cranberry Juice 3 years ago

I finally found a cranberry juice that’s affordable and doesn’t have any HFCS! The brand name is Apple & Eve, and they make cranberry, cran-raspberry, cran-grape, cran-mixed berry and cran-blueberry. They are fantastic, and help me get one step closer to a HFCS-free existence. :)
