see: Blondie, effortlessly cool.
Aside from being in “Spaced” one of the best comedies ever created (notice the username), she is one of the v.few female comedians that I like. Heres a short bio. I found of her –
Jessica co-wrote and co-starred in two series of SPACED on Channel 4. Spaced was nominated as Best Sitcom and Jessica won the Best Female Comedy Newcomer Award at the British Comedy Awards 2000. The 2nd series was nominated at the 2001 International Emmy Awards. She was nominated for Best Actress at the 2003 BAFTA Awards for her performance in TOMORROW LA SCALA. Her performance in THE NIGHT HERON at the Royal Court was also nominated for Best Performance in a Supporting Role at the 2003 Olivier Awards.
Above are some of the clothes she designed for Lee Cooper called “The Dodger” (obviously inspired by the artful dodger). I love the way that she says her 5 elements of style are “Hats, all kinds, boots, men’s shirts, jeans, and anything with a high waist”. Thats my kind of style.
“With her huge dark eyes, heart-shaped mouth, and tousled bob, Clara Bow was the embodiment of the twenties jazz baby. Her life was a Hollywood movie: miserable, impoverished childhood, overnight stardom, national adulation. Not that it was all plain sailing once she got to Tinseltown. The studio worked her hard (she made 58 films in 11 years), and until she settled down with fellow actor Rex Bell, Bow repeatedly clashed with her bosses over her tempestuous personal life. No matter; Bow’s fans couldn’t get enough of her undeniable sex appeal, crystallized in the 1927 film It and in her enduring, much-pilfered nickname—”the It girl.”
(Also a redhead!!!)
She is brilliant in every film I have seen her in (Elf/Hitchhikers Guide/Almost Famous) and is kooky without putting it on too much cough Kirsten Dunst cough. She also comes across well in interviews and had a GREAT fashion sense.
I had to do a project on her for history in yr9, I was actually quite annoyed as most of the other girls got to pick females to write about (so naturally they chose the likes of Madonna, Marilyn Munroe and Britney Spears etc.) but the teacher told me to specifically study her instead, and I’m now glad that she did.
Violet Szabo was a member of the Special Operations Executive (SOE) during WWII.
Her husband Etienne Szabo (an Officer of the Free French Forces) was killed at El Alamein shortly after their daughter, Tania was born. Devastated by his death she volunteered for duty in France. On her first mission she was teamed with Philippe Liéwer, (‘Clément’) a former correspondent of the Havas news Agency. They went by Lysander to a spot near Paris and her task was to make a study of Resistance possibilities in the Rouen area, a task which she completed notwithstanding having to explain her movements to French police who had arrested her. She was freed and made her way back to Paris and requested a pick up – it is related that she shopped on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées for presents for her daughter to be given to her on arrival in England. Her second para drop into France took place on 10th June near Limoges immediately after the Normandy landings and whilst giving covering fire to a French Maquis leader (‘Anastasie’) she fought in a gun battle (using a Sten gun) with Germans until her ammunition was exhausted. She was incarcerated in Ravensbrück and after horrifying experiences was (with others) shot in 1945. One of the survivors of this infamous camp described her as outstanding amongst the thousands of women there.
Mme. Szabo was posthumously awarded her George Cross in 1946 and it was received from the King by her 4-year old daughter.
Violet is also closely related with the poem “The Life That I Have” by Leo Marks, as original poems were used as cyphers by Agents.
The film “Carve her name with pride” is based on her life, and there is also a museum dedicated to her and he Royal College of Music offers an annual award called Violette Szabo GC Memoriam Prize for pianists who accompany singers.
As well as being the last player, male OR female to have held all 4 Grand Slams at the same time, Serena is also involved with her own fashion line, and many charities. She is known for her colourful (and sometimes strange) outfits on court; she once played in a leather-looking catsuit as well as representing the athletic bodytype, whilst still looking feminine.
She’s funny, interesting, impulsive, exciting, spontaneous, has a great fashion sense and does whatever the hell she wants. She takes advantage of every oppertunity, not wasting a single second of her life and also she has GREAT hair.
