I’ve been writing a lot more lately. I’ve been blogging for a couple of years now, but the focus has always been a bit more focused than this (that was kind of redundant, wasn’t it?). What I really like about 43 Things is that I can just make a goal, or mark some things down that I’d like to do, and then just write about them. It makes it really easy to just get the creative juices flowing, even if sometimes I type faster than my keyboard can keep up (it’s a nice Apple keyboard though).
I’ve also decided to take another look at my book I started writing about 6 years ago, and never made it past the second chapter. I really like the characters in it, but they’re not characters I feel I can write freely about because they’re based on people I know, and some people can get all butt-hurt over a stupid fictional story.
My favorites are the three main characters, because they’re based on exaggerated character traits of myself and my two best friends. I really liked writing about the character based on me, because it allowed me to really explore a darker side that I don’t let out too often. The 3 main characters also kind of reflect Freud’s theory of the id, ego, and super ego. Even if you think Freud was a nutcase (which he was), his theories about the mind are at the very least interesting (skipping all of that sex with your mother stuff).
So, in an effort to improve my madd writing skillz, I’ve found that I really enjoy just sitting down, and letting my fingers walk across the keyboard, and being interested to see what comes out. Heck, that’s half of what writing is anyway… am I right?
