I have a 997 blitz rating on Chessmaster 7000. The simulated opponents around that level play like beginners and some of them take a lot of time for their moves, so I’ve been using Extreme Chess instead, which I can set to take an average of 1 sec. per move while not adding random blunders. I need takebacks to win even at that setting.
This is something I’m doing anyway, trying to improve at chess when I play games on the computer instead of playing even more trivial games so much. If I can get an average rating, or I’m willing to play rated games against live opponents casually, I’ll consider this accomplished. I’ve written a chess program myself, good enough to solve mate in 2 problems, so whether I can accomplish this should be just a matter of training not to make blunders or willingness to play live anyway.
Looking over the trivial games I’ve wasted time on while listening to music or tv shows, I have these results to show for it: Spider: 499 wins, 713 losses, 41% win rate, on difficult. Triad (old version, see http://www.randomly.com/ for new version): 58 seconds. FreeCell: solved about 20 deals from the very hard lists, including 1941. Space Cadet Pinball: 132,903,250. Mine Sweeper Beginner: 9 seconds, Intermediate: 47 seconds, Expert: 189 seconds. Does anyone have a guess what chess ratings would show similar skill or waste of time?
