I was lucky enough to spend my formative years in a household with one of the best backyards in the history of the world (barring those owned by kings, princes, sultans, etc. . . .). But my grandmother was an avid gardener, and the entire backyard was riddled with corners and nooks in which to hide. Around the back wall, we had grape vines and other concealing growths, but with the key feature of being around eight inches away from the concrete wall, making it the perfect passage for small children to sneak from one side of the yard to the other. There were several trees to climb, and apricots, pears, berries, and other fresh num nums to munch on. Not to mention all the mud pies we made. ;o) Oooooh, and a huge, red brick patio that was perfect for impromptu arson attempts. Talk about budding early.
