legally change my name

So I’ve told a few people that I plan on changing my name legally and the most popular question seems to be, “Have you told your parents yet?” Well, no I haven’t - a.) my parents and I aren’t that close and b.) I am an adult and don’t feel I need to discuss these things with them. Sure, I’ll tell them - but it isn’t something that has come up during our usual 8-minute biweekly phone calls. I’m not anticipating them being supportive (after all they apparently like the name, they gave me) or even calling me the name I prefer. I just wish my friends would stop worrying about how my parents are going to react - I’ve got that covered - and instead be more supportive…hint.hint: call me by the new name.

I want this done before I celebrate my next birthday. That gives me four months and about two weeks. I’m not sure how long this process takes so I think after my move I’m going to start this.
