But in order to get things done for the family room, some cleaning needed to be done. Husband was actually the industrious one.
- Cans were finally taken to the recycling center. Guess what, we’re rollin’ in some fat cash. $8.40! I know, it’s rude to discuss money like that, but when you got it you just want to flaunt it.
- The old microwave has met its end. We aren’t going to discuss it anymore.
- We chucked out a ton of trash. Floor is visible again. Woo.
There are miles to go.
It will have to become a challenge goal of some sort. This is sad. Springtime. Yes, springtime.
It’s back on!
Okay, husband has been helping out a great deal on this one. He’s sick of the clutter as well and has been rearranging stuff in the garage and clearing out stuff.
We had a bunch of branches in the garage from a large storm that we didn’t put out for trash collection because they were big enough for the fireplace if they were cut down. Well, they’re cut down today! And a bucket of them have been brought into the family room with the fireplace. It makes a difference.
The center must have things done to it – this is really the logjam of the whole garage. The good news is that we may be selling the motorcycle soon (for scrap, it literally has all the rubber pieces rotting and the last time the plate was renewed was 1996!).
The rest is a matter of cleaning up and using the storage in the back (open unit) more effectively. I have flower pots that need to be cleaned, a microwave that needs to be disposed of (you can’t even give those suckers away!) and 2 (yes 2!) working chest freezers that need to be put on Craigslist. Plus a whole bunch of random stuff that doesn’t even go in the garage (2 cases of Ramen???).
After that, we’ll largely be down to organizing tools. That will feel much better. This is not a one-day job, but putting it down officially puts the garage on notice!
Looking much better. Was able to move a ton of stuff to where it really belongs in the garage (even though those corners aren’t great). Clubs got moved to hall closet, although I don’t know if I’m 100% sure that’s the best place for them now (I could always store them in the car, but that’s not a great deal).
Tons of sweeping and a lot of trash (the brown bag is our lawn waste, so that will be gone Monday), but it’s definitely starting to look better!
This corner is my project for the rest of the weekend. I’m currently covered in dust, but I’m making some progress. I threw away some obvious trash and started putting things away even if the other spots were harder to get to…now to decide where things go.
I’ve decided to try to move the golf clubs inside and to the hall closet. I think it’s a better place for them to be on a day-to-day basis.
So this is before…to post an after Sunday evening is the goal.
5 years ago we finally bought a house – we moved out of a 2 bedroom townhome with a basement and no garage to a 4 bedroom house with a basement and a garage. It’s silly. It’s not like we moved into the house and bought a ton of extra junk to fill up the garage with.
Neither of us parks in the garage because of the stuff. Photographic evidence shows why. Yes, some of it is project related, some is for yard tools, but a lot of it is just not getting organized.
There’s stuff I can clean out and put up on Cragislist immediately, as well as a few items I can just move out of the garage and to where they go (see that bag of bird food – it goes in the deck box out back!). I’m going to move that as soon as I’m done with this entry…which is now!
