Collect the fifty American state quarters

So I’ve actually been spending cash lately and no new quarters. Until last night. On a trip to Target for a new travel coffee mug, some lip gloss, a new tea mug and some coffee, I ended up with 3 quarters. Utah, old school and IDAHO!

I know, that’s a pretty glamorous errand, isn’t it? (It is a pretty sweet travel coffee mug.) :)

Hey, this leaves West Virginia, Iowa and Arkansas. Woot!

That’s right, after receiving all sorts of old-school quarters and duplicates, ALASKA. Oh, you beautiful bear – thank you for getting us to within 4 of our goal. Yeah, yeah…the territories have their quarters, but I started this before they got theirs.

That leaves West Virginia, Alabama, Iowa & Idaho. In the East Coast vs. West Coast, it’s looking like the West Coast is going to complete first…

(I’m trying to shame the other quarters in to appearing.)

But change is conspiring against us! I swear, we seem to always get old-school quarters or really common quarters. That we’ve never seen an Alaska quarter is simply odd.

But I promise that this goal is still alive.

Change again today at Lowe’s! That’s right, who says bull manure isn’t worth a thing? :) It’s a Minnesota Quarter, that’s what it is!

And now that you know my day involved 50lb bags of bull manure, you can just stay jealous of my glamorous lifestyle. I know JLo is probably totes seething…you know, as she reads these entries before she goes off to a red carpet event. (Who said growing up wouldn’t be exciting?)

Got a North Dakota Quarter today in change from Katzingers – yes, an entry is owed for that goal (it has been a while!). We got 75 cents in change and it was old school, Florida and North Dakota. I might have felt bad about the Florida being a duplicate quarter, but it was rough-looking. The North Dakota quarter was as majestic as the buffalo imply. Okay, it was shiny.

After going through the change (yay for Hardee’s thickburgers – where I live, the franchise doesn’t exist, so I’m always happy to grab a meal on the way home from visiting family). Not only did I get Western Burger goodness (plus my Diet Coke with a splash of Strawberry Fanta awesomeness), but change revealed a Wisconsin quarter!

Alabama came at a quarter search along the Kansas turnpike – woo!

Went through change from the road trip, had nothing. Pops asked what we were searching for and he had an Indiana quarter on him! So 9 remain…

Husband and I each contributed today. I got Maine in some change today, he got Washington in a trade at work today.

So now we are down to the final 10…

I feel like it’s American Idol for loose change or something. But without horrible song choices or drunken judges.

After a dry spell of trading that only netted quarters we already had and change that seemed to only have East-Coast quarters, we got a California Quarter today!

Woo!

Well – a Saturday morning of running errands was nearly a bust. First, a trip to the butcher and while we get good stuffs from the butcher and pay in cash, all of the quarters are old school. The library involves no cash (no fines!). Bakery, I had exact change. But then the final stop – Lowe’s to pick up a new hook for the dog lead out back. Jackpot – one Montana quarter in change.

I know – Saturdays are glamorous here, aren’t they? :)
