Got the mattress out. Futon and Bean bag are goners, too. Next I call Good Will and sort through the boxes.

I called a hauling-junk-away guy and he was supposed to call back. He sounded like a nice old man so I’m sure he will. We got the mattresses all lined up to go. Next on the list is the furniture. Meanwhile, tomorrow is the day the futon and bean bag get aired before we store them.

Made the kid and Dad separate the bedroom from the boxes of junk so I could wipe it off and call Goodwill. This only took 10 seconds of my time-some minor nagging and the implied threat of a really crappy dinner.

Goodwill’s coming Thursday. I’m frying chicken that day and will use that as a bribe to get the bed taken apart and piled with the rest of the furniture.

Yikes! There actually are 26 people on this blog that have ‘Clean out my Garage’ as a life goal. What a bunch of losers!

The really, really sad thing is that I did this last year-actually emptied 16 years of accumulated junk from the garage. It was so emotionally satisfying.

Every thing was going fine until my two grown children moved their crap back in. That’s right, I’m blaming the kids. One child had the decency to take most of her stuff to her next apartment but the Sweden-bound kid left his entire stash in the garage. I’ve decided to donate his bedroom set because it’s too heavy and ugly to haul up three flights of stairs to his next firetrap, student apartment. The mattress is old and nasty; I’m not letting it in the house so it will be thrown out. Bean bag and futon can be aired out and stored. The kid is going to pack the rest of the bric a brac up into plastic tubs that can live in my storage room until he returns.

In one month, I will park in the garage again! Hooray for goals!
