Have a home birth

Too many complications 1 week ago

I was sooo close to having a homebirth! However, it was discovered three days before I was induced that I have anti-D antibodies in my blood. This can be harmful to the baby so I needed to be induced in the hospital for the baby’s safety. I was disappointed for sure, but I am glad that my baby is healthy and safe. I was able to have a natural birth, despite the pitosin. It is very unlikely that I will ever be able to have a homebirth because of the antibodies. I am now 20 weeks along with #2 and I am planning a hospital birth in a large hospital with a good NICU. Homebirth is good, but you need to know when it is not safe for you and the baby.

Yup. 13 months ago

I’ve planned on having a home birth for years because my mom became a midwife when I was 13. She will be assisting the delivery of my first child which is due January 17, 2009. She has already assisted with the delivery of my sister’s two boys (I got to be there for the last one, he was born July 26, 2008). From what I saw, birth is a very natural, sometimes extremely painful process. I expect it to hurt quite a bit actually (even after reading “painfree childbirth”.... or whatever that book is called…) But I still want to do it naturally, without drugs. So far, I haven’t taken any pain medication since I became pregnant. I don’t want to risk anything affecting my baby. Too many children have autism these days!
