I start in May.
I start in May.
I interviewed yesterday and only planned to (hopefully) teach one course. But nooooooo. I get to develop two classes – NYC History & Culture and Race, Class, Gender & Representation. But that is not the half of it. My classes will be hybrid – online and in the real world. This is so great because I will get experience in both platforms and will be more marketable as I keep going down the teaching road.
My first academic interview. Honestly, I cannot wait. Blow some positive vibes my way.
It ws recommended to a certain dean that I am such a fabulous educator and have such diverse knowledge that I could teach across the disciplines. Said dean sent me an email and requested the cv. Now I have an interview in a couple of weeks.
No, I won’t be a professor, but that is just a title. Yippee!
I am compiling a list of available adjunct positions in and around NYC and sprucing up my CV and cover letter. I have set my goal for application completion as February 2nd.
I am also looking at tenure-track MA positions at community colleges in the area. All applications will be out by that same date.
As the PhD applications get completed, I am getting on my way to really accomplishing my goal. I guess as soon as I start adjuncting (hopefully in January) I will kind of be a Prof.
I am responsible for creating a Saturday program for high school students at my job. I am finishing creating the program right now and am beginning the recruitment process for the program which begins in October.
The program is going to be organized around intensives—dance, art, literature, etc. I am going to design two different literature intensives: one, poetry and the other the builds critical literacy skills. I can’t wait to teach them. Yeah!
Once I have my MA in June, I will be able to become and adjunct lecturer. Luckily, there are a gaggle of colleges in the NY area and they always need lecturers. Add to that all of the online programs, and I should at least be able to get a gig for the fall. Not a professor yet, but closer and close enough for now.
This might not pan out as three of the four schools I have applied to have REJECTED me (all within the last week no less.) I am just waiting for that last letter. Oh well, we shall see what happens…
This is going to be n my list forever. Once I finish my MA this spring and go on to a PhD program, i will be ever so closer to my goal!
