I don’t know my score and could care less. I put too much importance on his number when I am already fabulously intelligent.

That’s the day. My GRE is that morning. I will battle rush hour subway traffic to get downtown for the test. I plan to get some breakfast and saunter in and blast the test. You can only prepre so much!
I am in the midst of prepping 10 high school seniors for the November 3rd SAT. I am giving them the same advice that I am using to prepare for the GRE.
Let’s hope that we rub off on one another.
I am not looking at the “math” section at all. Whatever I get is whatever I get. I manage a $150,000+ budget at work and don’t think that Pythagoras or derivatives factor into my future work. I am not trying to be an engineer or anything close to it.
I just really want my “verbal” and writing scores to be high. I hate this crap. I already have an MA, which means I wrote a damned thesis. I can f’ing write!
One of the folks I value (a former prof) has talked me out of doing the online prep. She told me that it was overkill, and pretty convincingly so. I do have all the tools right here at home in order to get my study on. I can use that $99 to pay for 1.5 of my PhD applications.
My school offers an online GRE prep course for $99. I am registering for the course that begins on August 15 and runs for six weeks. This is great timing because I am registering to take the test on October 8th.
I have beefed up my study resources and am mapping out my study plan. I refuse to over-study, but I also want to make sure that I get in enough time to properly prepare.
I have some study guides on hand that teach you how to take the test. They have some great tips. I also have some flashcards that will help build my vocabulary. I am reading a lot this summer (a lot of theory relevant to what I want to do in school) so my vocab will generally increase.
I plan on prepping really well for this test and getting it done right.
This will be the third and final time that I take this test. The first time I took it, I was sick as a dog, but I decided to take it anyway. I did not do great, ok, but not great. My writing score was off the chain though!!
The second time I took it, my overall score increased by 200 points. After a few weeks, I began receiving recruiment letters and emails from some PhD programs.
This time, I want to increase my score so that I can know that it would not be a barrier into getting into any of the schools of my choice. I also want to be able to qualify for some top-notch fellowships.
