My "Visual DNA" 11 months ago

Love this website – I took the test & I think it’s fascinating as to what the test feels I am most like. I never thought of myself as a performer, nor seeking the center of attention, but perhaps there is an under-score of my personality that I need to explore. Here are some of the results:

CAREERS: THINKER
ART: HANDS ON
MOVIES: ESCAPIST
PARTY: RAVER
MIND: THE INNOVATORLIGHT MY FIRE: FLIRTY
DATING: EYELASH FLUTTERER (married – duh!)
PERSONALITY: SOFISTICAT
LOVE: WISTFUL SOULTRAVEL: ECOTRAVELLER (I don’t think so at all)
WELL-BEING: WISHFUL THINKER – (ha!)

The Future ~
Maybe you’ve outgrown your current job or perhaps you want make your mark with a big career move. You may not be ready to make a change just yet, but you’re definitely thinking about your options and you understand the value of doing lots of research and thinking so that you make the right move when the time comes. You’ve got a pretty healthy attitude when it comes down to it. You don’t allow yourself to get too stressed out by life however challenging it may be. Just make sure that you’re not so laid back that you lack the necessary drive to promote yourself and really fulfill your potential.

The Comfort Blanket 12 months ago

I always dread the holidays. They are a somber time for me, full of happy and sad memories of my past. And being born two days before Christmas does not make the looming season any more bearable.

This is a hard time for me because it is when my mom became ill with cancer & we were forced to stand by and watch her slip away. But my mom was a sly lady – she began working on what would be her last work of art as soon as she receivedd the diagnosis. She was extremely talented with crocheting of which her busy, colorful afghans have graced my beds & couches for as long as I can remember.

After she passed just two days before my birthday, my immediate family travelled to my home where they stayed during the holiday. It was not a happy time & the last thing I wanted was to celebrate. But my mom had other plans…

She gave my dad specific instructions to have me open this package on my day. She wanted to make sure I had a birthday no matter what, and I could not have been more taken back by what I saw inside. I carefully peeled back the tissue to reveal a brown and white patterned yarn.

At first, I thought it was a pillow or sweater, but on closer examination I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was the comfort blanket we so lovingly coined the project that she feverishly worked on day & night.

Through the weeks and months that she created the blanket, it began to grow enormous in size & flow all around her and we took refuge in the fact that she was occupied in a hobby she adored.

As I now peer down at this exquisite work of art & examine the intriquate detail in each loop and pearl, I instantly feel the love and comfort she poured into it.

This is the one posession I will never live without. I pull it out on cold nights like this one and wrap myself up in it’s warmth. The days that lie ahead seem a little more bearable as I reflect on the depth of this hierloom. It is a treasure that will live on in my family forever and I am so blessed to be given such a gift.

The Power of Red 12 months ago

There was a time when pink dominated my wardrobe. Then came time to grow up and focus on serious, conservative pieces for building a career, and suddenly my closet was filled with black. 4 or 5 pairs of the same style in black slacks, dozens of black tops… the infamous little black dresses popping up all around.

In the past couple of years, I have started collecting a lot of red in my wardrobe, and after purghing my closets I really took notice in how much I have really changed.

Red gloves, hats, bags. Red tops, earrings & shoes – I am in love! I love keeping my fashion timeless. Brown is a good staple, navy blue & white. But there is just something so classic and crisp about a nice red piece to pull it all together.

Moleskine Obsessed 14 months ago

A combination love of writing and creativity sparks a common-ground for material things. It amuzes me how many people who are just like me who share the obsession of the Moleskine.

Pronounced in four syllables, “Mole-A-Skeen-A” it has humble beginnings in the hands of iconic masters of the arts.

I collect them and use them for every facet of my life… one in my purse for daily thoughts, one in my project file for inspiration, one with my studio to record photos, another at my shop to organize business plans… and then there are the city guides.

There is a world of pleasure to be found in one of these small treasures. And nothing makes me feel more inspired about the Moleskine than the trance of a Flickr slide-show of those who have created masterpieces with their own.

I have the most amazing guy... 21 months ago

I think that possibly, maybe I’m fallin’ for you
Yes, there’s a chance that I’ve fallen quite hard over you
I’ve seen the paths that your eyes wander down
I wanna come to
I think that possibly, maybe I’m fallin’ for you

No one understands me quite like you do
Through all of the shadowy corners of me

I never knew just what it was
About this old coffee shop I love so much
All of the while I never knew
I never knew just what it was
About this old coffee shop I love so much
All of the while I never knew

I think that possibly, maybe I’m fallin’ for you
Yes, there’s a chance that I’ve fallen quite hard over you
I’ve seen the waters that make your eyes shine
Now I’m shinin’ too
Because, oh because, I’ve fallen quite hard over you

If I didn’t know you, I’d rather not know
If I couldn’t have you, I’d rather be alone

I never knew just what it was
About this old coffee shop I love so much
All of the while I never knew
I never knew just what it was
About this old coffee shop I love so much
All of the while I never knew
All of the while
All of the while
It was you

Seeking Solitude 22 months ago

Although I love being around my friends, I have the deep yearning to be alone with my thoughts. Whether writing or blogging, going for a jog or a stoll on the beach, spending this time to myself is very important to me.

What's playing in my ear 22 months ago

Although I love the sound of good old Bossa Nova or Jazz, I adore Classic 40’s Swing. I don’t know if it is genetic from my mother, or how I adopted this fascination.

Growing up in the 80’s, I also enjoy retro and alternative. But on a day like today, when I am indulging in some of my hobbies around the house, I love to have some classic music playing in my ear.

My Quote 22 months ago

There are certain things you read that just stick with you and drive you toward the passions within. There is a quote, (by whom, I have never known) but it goes something like this…

“Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it”

That strikes a chord with me on so many levels.

First of all, I have given up a lot in my life to be where I am today:

- Friends who have brought me down
- Jobs that weren’t right for me
- Relationships that didn’t work
- Personal items that no longer hold meaning
- Routines that I didn’t stick to
- Working for other people
- A steady income/health insurance
- Keeping up with the Jones’
- A religion that did not fit my life

I also gave up some very meaningful things in order for me to be happier and more fulfilled, like my family and close friends and my beautiful home.

But I’ve never given up on myself, or my dreams. Always looking forward through any obsticle life hase given to me, I try to look at the road ahead and choose the right path to take.

Success isn’t always holding on to expensive material objects or proving to other people that you are somebody special. Success is something that comes with the confidence that you have found your purpose, and are willing to let go of the things that are holding you back from that.

I love this quote – it defines everything that I stand for in my life today

I am a believer... 22 months ago

The book ‘The Secret’ captivated me from the very beginning. It has opened up many doors for me: in business, my personal relationships, my dreams, and spiritually.

I have explored the books that inspired the Secret and have followed their guidance to create a successful business. I truly believe that if it weren’t for this movie, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Eternally Grateful 22 months ago

My love for journaling just got a lot easier – I found a great Gratitude Journal by Rhonda Byrne. It accompanies “The Secret” with the same inspirational quotes and beautiful design.

This is something that I do every day, and it has enriched my life because of it.
