And I wake up desperate to hear the sound of their exhales on cold mornings, the sound of tightening leather as you saddle-up and adjust yourself in the seat and put weight in the stirrups, the sound of their anxious stamping feet wanting to skip the warm-up and just go play and the way they can not-so-gently nudge your pockets looking for carrots and stray oats.
I really miss them.
