make a smaller ecological footprint

I’m going to replace all my incandescent (standard) light bulbs with the fluorescent variety. I’ve read that flourescent bulbs last an average of five years! Plus they use far less electricity and can save BIG BUCKS on electric bills! Sure they cost a little more to purchase in the beginning, but overall they save a lot of money and may be the easiest, quickest way to combat global warming and reduce ecological footprints!
As my old bulbs burn out, I’ll replace them. Won’t you all join me? Also write your congressmen to encourage the passing of state or federal bills to make incandescent bulbs illegal (Australia already HAS done this).
