Read the series and passed the books on to my 7-year-old niece. Can’t wait for the next book!

Current read: Half-Blood Prince (second time) 3 years ago

Although this series is supposedly written for children, as the characters get older and enter adulthood the themes become darker and reflect the angst of being a teenager and young adult in an unpredictable world. The evil that Voldemort perpetuates represents the unknown and the uncertainty of what can happen in a world with good and evil existing side-by-side. In the Order of the Phoenix (book 5) Harry has difficulty controlling his emotions and sometimes his actions. His emotions tend to “boil over” at times shocking his friends Hermione and Ron. I like how Rowling doesn’t always stick with the “safe” topics but provides the true ups and downs of life; especially the angst of craving independence coinciding with not quite yet being an adult—the feeling that not having adult status can feel powerless and that perhaps as a teen, you would make better choices than those of the adults that surround you. One of the muggles said something like, “you are wizards and can perform magic, why can’t you do whatever you want?”...the wizards just chuckled…alas life isn’t that simple.

I’m currrently reading book four and I’ve really enjoyed this series.

Started a couple of days ago... 3 years ago

I was too busy to read the books when they came out. Finally, when I had the time I read the 5th book and loved it. Now I want to start from the beginning. I ordered the paperback set from Amazon and started last week. I’m currently reading book 2. I’ve been procrastinating about doing my work and have been reading all day…nothing like being cozy in bed on a rainy day reading a great book!
