...not so well when I go out to eat. For some reason I see eating out as an excuse to have whatever I want. Not good! For the month of May I’m going to avoid all fast food and try to make better choices when I sit down to a meal out with friends. Part of my problem is that I don’t need to eat healthy food in an effort to lose weight and I will have friends criticize me over dinner if I choose to eat something healthy because “I don’t need to worry about it.” Why am I not allowed to want to make healthy choices simply because it will give me more energy, make me feel good, and I don’t want to fill my body with garbage? I’ve referenced the book “Positive Energy” by Dr. Judith Orloff in multiple posts and I just finished the chapter on how food affects our energy. It really made me realize how crucial healthy food, and especially organic food, is to our overall well being beyond our physical health. It has made me more committed than ever to making good choices about what I put in my body.

I’ve decided to track everything I eat this week just to see how it goes and if it helps me make better decisions. It definitely kept me on track yesterday, we’ll see if that keeps up as the week goes on.
I’ve been neglecting my eating habits and I can totally feel the effects. I’ve been very low energy lately and it is hard to get through my intense work week. I really need to stay on top of this and make sure I am eating the right foods to sustain my busy, busy lifestyle. Time to buckle down, make good grocery lists before I shop and plan meals ahead of time!
I had a wellness profile done yesterday and it looks pretty good except that I need to be eating a lot more protein. On a mission now to find more ways to incorporate protein into my diet.
I’ve been cooking at home more often and it has been great.
Veggie soup last week, pot roast this week…I need to find a good recipe for next week!
My fried food challenge was relatively successful, I only slipped up a few times. This is a challenge I’m extending for myself indefinitely, it feels so much better to cut deep fried items out of my diet! And I found that I don’t even care for french fries anymore, so that’ll be one very easy thing to stay away from.
I’ve made a good habit of having oatmeal (the good kind without all the flavors in it) for breakfast most mornings. It is filling, low on calories and fat, and makes me feel good :)
I’m challenging myself to go a full month without eating anything that has been deep fried. I don’t think I’ll miss it too much, I’m more worried about ordering things without conciously thinking about how they are prepared.
I’m trying to reduce my intake of refined sugar and so far I’ve found that it is EVERYWHERE! This is going to be harder than I thought.
With the coaching of my mom over the phone, I made my own veggie soup from scratch last night. Not as hard as I thought! It turned out very well and now I have healthy soup to eat all week.
