F - Friends Like Us

I chose this book mostly because the author is from Wisconsin, like me! It was very funny and also at the same time a bit sad. It was very relate-able which I always like in a book.

I’ve now covered half the letters in the alphabet, woohoo!

A - The Absent One

This book was written by the same author that wrote my “K” book. Another crime novel, this one was a bit more heavy than the first & I didn’t enjoy it as much as the other book, but it was still a worthwhile read.

P - "The Perks of Being a Wallflower"

I picked this up to read for a book club (although I didn’t finish it in time to attend, but finished it anyway). I’m so surprised I didn’t read this book sooner, but I enjoyed it very much! Maybe I’ll consider seeing the movie…but I wouldn’t want it to ruin the book for me.

K - "The Keeper of Lost Causes"

My first experience with the “Nordic crime” genre. I really liked it and I’m looking forward to reading the next “department Q” book.

I

“The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”

This is a must read for everyone, we should all understand the impact of medical research on our lives! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and had a difficult time putting it down. Truly a story that everyone would benefit from knowing since we’ve all most likely benefited from it medically.

M

“Mockingjay” by Suzanne Collins

Just powered through this one, it was tough to put down. Each book in this series definitely gets more intriguing!

C

“Catching Fire” by Suzanne Collins

I got into this book much faster than Hunger Games, maybe its because I was already invested in the characters and idea of the story? I breezed right through it and I’m already more than halfway done with the next book.

L

“The Legend of L’Esprit” by Doris Greenberg and Pandre Shandley

I started dancing when I was 3 years old and the two lovely ladies who penned this book were my dance teachers for 15 years. They have brought love and talent to my life in a way that not many others could have. They have given me a gift which I am now sharing with others through my own dance studio. Ten years ago they began writing this book and finally self published within the last year. They have already received an indie book award; I couldn’t be more proud of them!

The book is a young adult novel about a 15 year old ballerina who starts at a new studio that it turns out is haunted. The mystery was intriguing and I breezed through the book quickly, reading as much as I could over the last few days.

This is an excellent young adult novel for eager readers out there! You can find out more here: http://dancersatheart.com/

T

I just finished “The Time Machine” by H.G. Wells. Thank you, Kindle, for having many classics for free! I got off to a slow start with this, the first chapter or so was difficult to get into but once I really got into it I enjoyed it quite a bit. Happy to check this one off my list!

S

I just finished “The Sun Also Rises” by Hemingway. I only took one literature class in college so I missed out on some great books and finally decided to start tackling many of the classics this summer. Having read “Old Man and the Sea” in high school I had set myself up to hate anything else Hemingway but I LOVED “The Sun Also Rises.” I’m looking forward to reading more of his work soon.
