I’ve stopped using cream moisturisers, as I think the silcone in them irritates my skin. I use rose hip oil and bio oil instead, it seems to be working :)

I've been trying a chemical exfoliant... 7 months ago

Instead of exfoliating manually, which seemed by aggravating the problem, but my skin still seemed clogged up, so I still needed exfoliation. So I bought Neostrata ultra smoothing lotion and I’ve been using it for 3 weeks. Haven’t had a major break out, any pimples that do appear disappear pretty quick and the ones that start out deep under the skin as cystic pimple don’t surface any more. The lotion is 10% glycolic acid, so it’s not for every one, especially if you have sensitive skin.

So my skin is not completely clear yet, but it’s getting there, and the exfoliant is also evening out my skin tone too, so double bonus :)

It clears up, it breaks out, it clears up, it breaks out and on and on and on.

Sigh.

I kept doing too much stuff to it, 12 months ago

Changing products, using products not suit to my skin, etc.

The only things that goes on my face now are:
QV gentle face wash,
Rosehip oil
Sunscreen
and in terms of make up…
Baby powder (yes, I’m that pale, it’s the only thing matches my skin tone)
YSL Touche Eclat, but that doesn’t really count, I only use it for my under eye circles, I don’t ever get pimples there.

My skin is only just starting to recover from all the random products I inflicted upon it.

I gave up using Olay on my face (I still use it around my eyes and on my neck and chest, it doesn’t cause problems there and I thought I better use it up since I spent more than I normally would on skin care products on it!)
I went back to using bio oil as moisturiser (that’s right OIL!) it doesn’t irritate my skin like cream moisturisers seem to do, it makes my skin soft and it’s also supposed to help with scars too.

I also bought a ten-o-six mud mask and that is working great too :)

I think most of my pimples are reactions to products, 17 months ago

The witch hazel helped for awhile, but I continued to use my olay moisturiser so my skin didn’‘t stay clear for long. The olay moisturiser feels so good when I put it on I didn’t want to admit that it was it cause the breakouts. I decided to stop putting anything on my face (except sunscreen), this is day 2 of no products and my skin is looking better -the existing pimples are drying out and I’ve got no new ones coming :)

Witch Hazel as a toner, 17 months ago

I stopped using a toner years a go because I thought it was a waste of time and money, I had great skin back then, it kinda was. I remember a friend of mine from back then saying that you should use toner because it gets rid of any excess cleanser and dirt, and it prepares the skin for moisturiser (by tightening pores and restoring the PH balance). She had a few patches of bad skin, I guess toner was how she kept it under control for most of the time.

I found T.N Dickonson’s Witch Hazel Face wipes at priceline the other day and thought I’d give it a try, it was cheaper than other toners there and seems to be more natural and less full of junk than other toners.

I’ve been using it for about a week now, so far my existing pimples have dried out quickly (with out a lot of irritation that comes with Benzoyl Peroxide) and I’ve only had one come up slightly since then, which promptly went back down.

My skin isn’t clear yet but I think I have found what works for me :)

Throughout high school I had all of two pimples, seriously I had great skin. First year of uni, BAM! pimples galore, like my skin it going through puberty later than everything else :P It cleared up a a fair bit and I had ok skin for about a year, but now it’s happening all over again. I bought some benzoyl peroxide cream yesterday because it helped clear my skin up last time… I need to start exercising again, that helps too.
