Well, I held out for two whole days, but a chocolate chip cookie finally got the better of me.
I’ll try again next month.

I had trouble concentrating today. My mind wanders. I noticed my legs would fall asleep often when sitting, when normally they wouldn’t. Studying is difficult, compared to yesterday when it was engaging. I keep thinking about other things.
I ran some errands today, including picking up a money order at a local grocery store. I was tempted several times to eat something, they even had free samples set out. But, I left with only the money order, a small bucket of cottage cheese, and a pack of gum.
I already have tomorrow night’s dinner planned out, I just need to hold out for one more day…
About noon, my stomache began to get a bit achey. By the afternoon, food was all that was on my mind. I took a nap in the late afternoon, and kept myself occupied. I went for a drive (it was actually headed to a local music performance, but police had blocked off about 7 blocks that half of town for some reason, so I just went home), washed dishes, watched a movie, and studied for an upcoming exam. It’s well after my bedtime now, and I really don’t feel that bad. Two more days, I’m not too worried.
Growing up Catholic, I am familiar with the concept of fasting. Though it wasn’t until a week ago, when I spoke with a 50+ year old lady I train with that I considered doing it for any extended period. She fasts regularly, and is currently very healthy (she plans to skydive for the first time on her 60th birthday in a couple years).
There seems to be plenty of health benefits to it. Also, after eating an entire pizza (a small one, but still…) Thursday for lunch, I felt bloated and just generally bad. Also, having recently broken up with my girlfriend of several years, I figured this would be a good chance to focus a bit and verify whether I’m going the right direction with my life. A small part of me just wants to know what it feels like to fast for a few days, too.
So, I decided to water fast for three days. I started Thursday night, and will end Sunday night. I do plan on eating dinner Sunday night, so I have time to digest before going to work Monday morning.
