I finally started on this goal. So far I have read a good introductory book on hieroglyphics which explained the history, the basic structure of the language, and the tools used. I learnt that there are about 800 symbols that make up the original language, and if you can master those, then you should be able to read the majority or inscriptions on pyramids etc over in Egypt. When the language evolved, about 5000-6000 symbols existed… but it might be a little too ambitious to learn all of those. I think I’ll stick to the original 800 and see how I go with those first.
