“In all affairs, it’s a healthy thing to hang a question mark on the things you have long taken for granted.”

“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts.”
Some days the only peace I find is in the beauty of this planet.
“The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule.”
A hundred times, yes.
“When I walk into a room, I know that everyone in it loves me. I just don’t expect them to realize it yet.”
When I read this, I smiled and nodded. I have a long way to go (such a short, short way if I had the courage to surrender) to clear my mind of self-defeating thoughts, but my heart already knows and lives this wisdom.
“I want to learn the lessons the first time. Life is too short for round and round the mountain walking.”
I just read this in my subscriptions and it encapsulated perfectly how I approach life. Thanks, sweetheart!
“To listen is to continually give up all expectation and to give our attention, completely and freshly, to what is before us, not really knowing what we will hear or what that will mean. In the practice of our days, to listen is to lean in, softly, with a willingness to be changed by what we hear.”
I’ve begun to think that tender listening draws forth people’s best self. The challenge I’m setting myself is to listen with delight to stories and complaints that I’ve heard several times before. Because even if the story is old, the person who is telling it for the thousandth time has the potential to be born anew every minute.
“When you are in doubt, be still, and wait; when doubt no longer exists for you, then go forward with courage. So long as mists envelop you, be still; be still until the sunlight pours in and dispels the mists – as it surely will. Then act with courage.”
Waiting in the enveloping mists without floundering blindly forward takes its own kind of courage. I know I am brave enough to do many things. Being brave enough to not do is still a challenge.
“There’s no philosophy that can’t be destroyed by love.”
I’ve been listening to the boys at work today and as soon as they sang this, I knew it had to go into my quotes list. Love, like the Hindu god Shiva, creates, destroys and dances on the back of the dwarf of ignorance.
“I don’t wanna! You can’t make me!”
I’m adding this to my list because of a great stress-relieving exercise by SARK. You twist your torso from side to side, letting your arms flop limply, while yelling the above quote. It’s quite relaxing to have this kind of planned tantrum and a surprising amount of anger can be released.
until I reach 365, and possibly beyond, but it’s not a priority right now.
