Freaking out. My bank was bought out yesterday, which is OK, but not really making me happy.
I have no idea how this will all pan out, and I must admit that I really want to take my savings out of the bank and put it in my coffee can!
I’m even watching the Nightly business Report, which is a bit odd for me….
I’m feeling lucky that I have no credit card debt, and all my debt is “good debt (Student loan and mortgage)....but I am worried about the stability of my type of employment, and also concerned about my IRA, my CD, and all that sort of things. Eeeek.

What to do about a CD? 17 months ago

I have a Stepped CD that was a 24 month CD thats coming due in June.
I have 7 days to do something with the money, or it will get re-invested into a New Stepped CD. The Stepped CD had a pretty good interest rate there at the end 5.something percent. I don’t need the money, but maybe I should roll it all into my Roth, or take a vacation with it, or buy new socks, or or or….
At the time, CD’s were being touted as good places to put money. Now, i am not so sure. WIll have to read up. Any advice from experienced money organizers, will be helpful….THanks!

Tax refund 19 months ago

Was a bit bigger than I guess I expected even though I knew how much it was going to be. Not really sure what to do with it, but it might get spent on training. then theres the time deposit CD becoming “due” in June or July (I cant recall.) and so i need to decide what to do with it all. Good to have options. Going to have to put some into the Paltry IRA.
I could use a financial advisor i suppose.

Ahhh this is why this is a goal 21 months ago

My cablewas pretty much turned off because they thought they had not recieved a payment. Turns out I was paying on someone elses account because I entered the wrong numbers in to the eletronic banking bill pay. Hopefully they will sort it out, becauseI paid about 400 dollars to that other account so far..

E-banking very convienient, but be careful to make sure everything is correct

Slight progress 23 months ago

My Mom called and told me a bill had come to her house from Citibank. So I called Citibank, discovered it was not a bill, but a ten dollar incentive to attempt to get me touse a card I have not used since 2005.
I cancelled the card. Clearly I don’t need it. It had a low credit limit, and I can’t think of any reason to continue an account that was so clearly inactive. One less “account” out there for someone to hack into!

Bill Pay.

I finally automated a few of my bills, with the plan to automate more as they come my way. Wowee, it’s so easy to pay bills now, no hassle with getting stamps, or writing out checks. No worry about if the payment got there or not.
Again, why i didn’t do it sooner? Beats me!

My mother 2 years ago

is going to connect me to her financial man when I come home for the holidays. By that time I should have saved a lot of cash and hopefully he can help me to best use it to my advantage.

What to do 2 years ago

I just checked my bank balance. I seem to have gotten a HUGE check from my old employer. I believe it’s that they have finally cashed out my Paid time off account and paid it…but I am not 100% sure. Unfortunately it’s a huge payroll with well over 10,000 people on it so calling and checking involves a hassle. At least for now I am going to immensley grateful for it, but also cautious and put it into savings, in case they ask for it back!!! But at least I can have some interest. This is such an odd time for them to complete a payout, but I never did get a payout, soooo…..

of the few goals I have worked on in the past 3 months of Traveler discontent…
I have got myself set up with on line banking, so I can actually check my balance anytime. I can transfer funds likety split, and I have an auto deposit into my Roth IRA. My savings account which had been depleted is gradually increasing, and I have a much better idea of where exactly my money is headed, so thats progress. I still need to contact a financial organizer, especially about taxes, but I’m waiting until I am a bit more liquid than I am at the moment.

A fellow traveler told me about her finance man, who she has known for years and years. Apparently he has made her quite a bit o money with minimal involvement on her part.
This particular contract coming up may bank me some cash so I can give him a ring in a few weeks. I feel better about hiring someone who is somewhat known rather than a person out of the blue.

My CD also comes due in about a year, which is ideal because I was just looking at the cedar sidings on the house and they are going to need replacement after another winter.
