Airline ordered to pay damages for serving meat to vegetarian
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — A Malaysian court has ordered national flag-carrier Malaysia Airlines to pay an Indian man 20,000 ringgit ($A6,800) in damages for serving him meat on board, after he asked for a vegetarian meal, news reports said Saturday.
Arvind Sharma, 44, said he vomited after he was served chicken on a flight from Bangalore to Kuala Lumpur in March 2003, the New Straits Times said.
M. Rajalingam, a magistrate in northern Penang state, ruled that Sharma — a member of the priestly Brahmin caste who said he had never eaten meat in his life — should be compensated for the depression, shock, mental anguish and humiliation he suffered, the newspaper said The airline’s negligence caused Sharma a “blemish in his code of conduct,” it quoted the judge as saying.
Malaysia Airlines officials could not be reached for comment Saturday.
I was like oh man I should have sued them when I got served dairy yogurt in my vegan breakfast!
Sure its probably not worth as much as meat but surely a few thousand I could spend flying on full fleece airline and not low cost carriers. So yeah I admit that I really like flying on an airline with meals. Yes I am a big inflight nerd and I am not embarrassed to get out my camera at meal time and start snapping away. It gives you something to do on the flight. And there is the excitement of wondering what you will get. Just hope it doesn’t result in you having knowledge for these sites.
