Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

- The Robots.

D, D & D went to a local place called Sophia’s here in Buffalo so we decided to check them out. I was a little nervous because when we got there we looked at the menu and saw it was mostly breakfast stuff when we were under the impression it was a greek place. As soon as we sat down, the owner (Sammy) and his mom, Sophia started talking to us like we had been family and known them our whole lives. The cool thing was this place was PACKED so there is no reason they would have singled us out, just that they were cool like that and took the time to talk with their customers. P got the open chicken soulvaki and I got the tuna with the soup of the day and the spanakopita. The soup was ham and cabbage which made me remember great times as a kid because my mom used to make it. Sophia taught us a secret on how to eat the soulvaki (with olive oil and squeezed lemon) instead of dressing and it was AMAZING. I saw her carrying a pan of what looked like pizza loaf and asked her what it was, she set one on my plate and told me to enjoy. After we chatted and ate amazing food, she came over and wrapped everything up to take home. We had to take everything because she said that everything is so expensive nowadays you cant afford to waste it. I told P we just acquired a greek mother. We will go back, it was a fantastic experience. The food portions were out of control and the food was incredible. I almost got the fried bologna and onions because that is a favorite of mine but got the tuna (which he put cumcumbers on. I thought only i did that…) and he said food network asked him to make the bologna and they put it on the show, so, we absolutely have to go back for that.
The entire day yesterday was one of the best we have ever had together and it all started at Sophia’s for lunch.
If you’re ever in Buffalo, do yourself a favor and check it out. Stay AWAY from Lake Effect Diner. I dont know how they got chosen…actually I go, old box car, all chrome, open late, serves breakfast, but they are TERRIBLE. Locals dont like it there. Take the extra block and eat at Amy’s Place. THATS where we all go.

B Lo

Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives was in Buffalo yesterday at a place called Sophia’s, which is a greek place. Cool. I was just thinking Im not anywhere near making progress on this goal. Im not going to count it because its local, but at least it may motivate me to find a close place….trouble is, there is no close place.

not D, D and D but.....

I love corny shows like Extreme Eats on the travel channel. It all started with Extreme Hot Dogs, I am quite a hot dog eater. Its what pulled me back from the vegetarian side. Yesterday as I waited for the girl to get home so we could go to date night (every Wednesday), I watched one on extreme All you can eat places. In Boston, at a place called cafe fleuri, its all you can eat chocolate and dessert. $35 per person, open until 2am, you can sit there all day if you want. P said when she goes for the Boston Marathon we should go the day after. I might be inclined to agree.

do over?

We are going to Michigan to see P’s dad for his birthday. We are planning on leaving Sunday around 10am. Maybe we can try to hit the Flytrap again and knock 1 place off of this goal.

time off

I am asking my psychiatrist for time off. I need a break. Work isnt horrible or even bad, but dealing with everything else, its just one more thing on the list of things Im having trouble dealing with. Not like 3 months or anything, just a week. My mom asked me to go to St. Louis with her next weekend to visit my sister. I said I would depending on airline prices. Not so much to see family, Im not that stupid, but to see all my friends back in St. Louis for a couple of days would be so great. Plus, Im pretty sure there were 3 or 4 places on Diners, Drive ins and Dives around there. I already went to the one in St. Louis city, but there are a few more near there. I’ll have to check at least one out if I can get the time off from my doctor.

This is mike. He’s one of my best friends. We were social workers for the homeless together. Feel the love? Id love to see him again. Its not the same over texts.

son of a....

The fly trap is closed all this week, which means that when we go through on the 26th, they are closed. No stopping for us. Crap.

The Fly Trap

The Fly Trap in Ferndale, MI. We come out of Canada in Detroit and pass Ferndale to Williamston. I live in Buffalo, NY which is 10 minutes from the canadian border. Apparently it will only take us 4 1/2 hours to get to Pace’s brother’s house. So, we are going to hit the Fly Trap on our way home on the 26th.

We are going to Michigan to see her brother’s family for Christmas. We will have to see if anything is there or maybe on the way home. Actually makes me a little excited…I hate traveling by car.

doesnt count

My girlfriend got all excited because she said we already ate at one, that left 2. I told her it didn’t count. We ate at Sweetie Pies in St. Louis which is a soul food place (when we were fat). I told her to qualify, we needed to go to ones that were not in the same city in which we live. They all look sooooo good. I am a major breakfast person, so I am all about the breakfast places. There is even one (blue Moon Cafe) that makes french toast rolled in captain crunch. My kind of place.
