make a friend

Last night as I got ready for bed, I looked at over P and said “we are truly blessed because we have met some amazing people this year”. Its true. We went to a get together Friday and it was with people we had just met within the last 3 months, but people we consider our friends no less. We laugh, get together and talk about funny, stupid and very serious things. I thought being a grown up is cool and today I think, not only is being a grown up cool, but having grown up friends is cool too. I wouldnt go back for nothin.
So, to my 6 friends that I have met this year who are AMAZING and helped me complete this goal, thank you my beautiful friends.
And to my 43things friends, stay strong. Stay beautiful and amazing and stay the change you wish to see in the world.

We met Amanda at Amy’s, a restaurant we spend a lot of time at. We talk all the time and it just seemed natural to hang out outside of Amy’s. Her and P talk on facebook and last night we all met up at Nietzsche’s to listen to celtic music, hang out and drink beer.
Amanda is a beautiful soul and we got to meet her girlfriend too. It was a great night. Meeting people that you know you have common goals, aspirations and morals with, is a great feeling.

I met some very cool people over the weekend. I knew of one, he was in weight watchers for a long time but never talked to anyone. The other day P and I were running at the park and went around the neighborhood because P’s friend, Phyllis said to check an apartment out. As we stood there looking at the apartment, which I said to her “no way”, Phyllis came up with Patrick. We got to talk and he showed us his house he and his partner have been working on for over a year. (I didnt know he was a homo). Gorgeous. They have restored it back to the original condition from the early 1900’s, of course with luxuries of today. It was nice to actually talk to him. We got home and P’s blackberry went off and it was Phyllis asking if we wanted to get together with the folks in the neighborhood sometime.
I thought it sounded lovely. Its nice meeting people our age with significant others. Gay, straight, whatever. I told her to say yes. :)

Jen called today and said that after all of this mess are we going to be good friends? We have been having trouble with our new insurance company because they want more information from us than if we were applying for a mortgage. All because we lived out of state. We have been back in NY for 2 1/2 years! I laughed and said we already are. I like her, not our insurance company, not to confuse the 2. So, I invited her to our get together in August and said I hoped she could come.

New friends rock.

That sounds kinda bad doesnt it? I picked up a card of a girl at the Williamsville Strawberry Social (HA) for an insurance quote. I called today and we ended up talking about weight watchers, animals (especially programs that spay and neuter ferals and strays) and yoga. It was really nice talking to someone new and seeing what the world holds for someone else in their own little world. My whole life I have always watched people walk down the street and wondered what their life was like, amazed that they had no idea about mine. Cool really.
But anyway, her name is Jen and she is married with 3 kids and said she would call me with my quote and to chit chat again. I said that sounds great.

I thought I had friends, but really, I have aquaintances or buddies. I had good friends and we keep in touch because we all moved away, but living here, I have no one I can call and talk to, go get coffee with or just chat with. Its kind of lonely. I realize the older I get, even just 1 good woman friend would be awesome. My last good friend got married and now of course has no time.
I would take a guy friend, I had quite a few of good guy friends and a guy best friend until he moved, but there are still some things that are hard to talk about with guys.
I feel like Im the new girl in grade school and trying to make friends.
