Eating 9 months ago

a block of chocolate (yes a whole block) tonight probably didn’t help the cause any even if it was fairtrade and organic…

I've started the year off with good intentions 10 months ago

as I’m really determined to tick this off as done. I came back from holidays a week ago and have since lost a kilo by eating sensibly and exercising for 30 minutes every day. That means I’ve still got three kilos to go as I put 2kg on over Christmas – I’ll blame nonna’s good cooking for that one ;)

When I had a look at my previous entry for this goal it was written five months ago! I’ve been so up and down with this and at at times it’s been more like 4 kilos than 3. At the moment I’m about half-way there. Exercise-wise I’ve been managing 30 mins on the treadmill 5 x a week, plus some work with weights. I’ve also taken up kayaking three or four times a week which has added to my overall activity levels. I’m being more conscious about what I eat (although I have slipped up this weekend a bit…) I’m determined to get down to my goal weight by Christmas otherwise I know I’ll be in real trouble.

write about this kind of thing under another goal, but I felt like this needed to be its own separate entity. Ever since I have come back from Japan I have been struggling to keep my weight down. At first I blamed it on Christmas and being out of my normal routine – but I think this many months on there’s clearly more to it. I have taken one or two kilos off at different points, but then I relax and it goes straight back on. Which is kind of a pain because I just didn’t have to think this much in Japan – my weight stayed within the same range and it never felt like a lot of effort. But I can see that I am doing some things differently. I’m less active than I was in Japan – I did a lot more walking on a day-to-day basis and went to the gym more than I’m going here. I ate smaller portions of healthier food. Having no oven combined with my dietary restrictions (I’m gluten and dairy intolerant) meant that I didn’t bake or eat baked goods – gluten-free things like cakes or bread were very difficult to come by in Japan and I just did without.
But now that I realise all this it’s time to do something about it. I don’t just want to accept putting on weight as being inevitable now that I’m back home. I was very happy at my previous weight and I want to get back to where I was.
