Essential components 2 years ago

My mattress is only four years old, but I’ve been thinking that it isn’t soft enough.

1. A layer of memory foam on top may be quite nice. Done and it is nice.

I still remember how important it was for me to have a brand new, never slept on mattress that I especially chose to be mine.

I get really bad pounding headaches that cause nausea from a pillow that is too low or too high for my neck. My mother has the same problem and we have often switched pillows. Even then I’m constantly switching layers of towels underneath as leverage. When crashing at a friend’s place I’ve been able to make do with a blanket folded up a couple of times. I have figured out that the density of whatever I’m laying on will matter on how firm or soft I need my pillow to be.

2. I’ve heard claims that memory foam eventually flattens itself out, but I’ve still got my sights set on a memory foam pillow. Done and I really like it.

As far as I know I’m not allergic to any fibers in my sheets or blankets which is good, because I have some really soft ones. These are also like the pillow, just one of those comfort things.

I used to read part of a book before bed, but found that it kept me up thinking too much and the hops in beer make me sleepy, but had too much potential to be habit forming.

1. Taking a warm bath and 2. drinking chamomille, comfrey, and especially valerian infusions work for me. It does the classic warming up of the body and then has a calming effect as the body cools down.

3. Inhaling a big whiff of lavendar goes straight to the center of my forhead and just kinda melts there.

4. I have listened to recorded guided meditations/sleep protocols (they give me weird dreams though), slow classical music, sounds of ocean waves, recordings of rain falling against pavement, buddhist monks chanting and Enya, Lorenna McKennit, Seal and another male singer have a bit of a lullaby effect on me.

5. I’ve combined the above four and all together they don’t match the kind of effect being massaged has.

I used to love falling asleep with my dog on my bed, but I didn’t like sleeping with him, because he was the worst bed hog. So my smart little animal would lay on my bed as I was falling asleep and would leave after a while when he thought I had fallen asleep.

At one point in my life for a couple of months I spent my weekends in another town with a friend and shared a bed. I wouldn’t of thought that sharing a bed with someone would help me sleep, but after a few weeks it was probably the best sleep I think I’ve ever slept.
