지금 vs 이제

I put out a question on koreanclass101 in the forum about the difference between 지금 and 이제. I posted the question yesterday and several people have already come back with responses to explain. I do love that site! Below I am pasting in one of the answers that best helped me to understand the difference:

This is kind of tricky.
Let me explain the concept so that you could understand it easier.

지금 is “now” at a point in time.

이제 is “now” as a result of passing time.

As Julia said,
This difference makes two sentences slightly different in nuance.

지금은 여름이다.
It’s summertime.

이제는 여름이다.
It’s summer now. (the spring is gone)

In most cases, they are hard to be distinguished.
But sometimes the difference between two concepts
are seen clearly.

지금 왔어요?
You came now?

이제 왔어요?
You came late!

지금 가세요.
Go right now.
(this is the time)

이제 가세요.
You should go now.
(you don’t need to stay anymore)
(I want you to leave)

It Was You / 너 였다고

This song is by JM. Does anyone know where I can find the lyrics? I’ve looked high and low:

koreanclass101.com

Someone from 43things turned me on to that site. I can’t remember who it was, but I was skeptical at first. Once I finally joined I found that the language tutorials on koreanclass101.com are unbelieveable. Dear anonymous 43thinger, 감사합니다.

한글

My ability to read hangul is increasing steadily. Even though I have not been purposely studying lately, I have been working a bit on my reading competency when I read subtitbles and film credits. Whatever works, YAY me!

romanization

It is 2:09 AM and I can’t sleep. I am thinking about how I need to work on my romanization. Right now it is middle-of-the-road. I can do much better.

Yikes!

Verbs to learn:

Verbs ending in consonants
먹다 – comer
읽다 – leer

Verbs ending in vowels ㅏ, ㅗ.
가다 – ir
보다 – ver

Verbs ending in vowels ㅓ, ㅜ, ㅡ, ㅣ.
쓰다 – escribir
배우다 – aprender
이기다 (to win) – ganar (to win, to earn)

하다 verbs
하다 (to do) – hacer (to make, to do)
공부하다 – estudiar

I had to look up the spanish for 배우다 because I did not remember it and for 이기다 because I wasn’t 100% certain (I was right, though). Not bad.
