For the first 4 days of me keeping track of this goal I was at 0% clean. On Sunday I made a major effort and put away all my clothes and vacuumed (!!) putting the cleanness factor at 50% (but not 90%, so doesn’t count as s success day). Monday I moved from 50% to the 90% mark by cleaning some more. Today I finished off by completely cleaning off my desk and workspace area, putting myself at about 95% cleanness. I trashed a whole bunch of papers from last term, filed important stuff, and just got myself organized.
So now for the past 2 days my space has been at (or above) 90% clean. (And the bike in the middle of my room doesn’t count, I have to wait to get the wheel replaced so it’s staying here until Friday).
I’m at 2/7 or 90% clean, 29% of the time. I will only count 90% clean days, so from now on I’ll just keep track of what percent of the time I’m “passing”.

This is my resolution for 2007 (made a couple of days late). To help me keep track of this goal I’ve created a spreadsheet where I will note nightly whether my space is 90% clean that day. Sure “90% clean” is a subjective judgment, but I know what I mean by 90% clean… my room is usually in one of 3 states – 0% clean (like now), ~50% clean (livable but embarrassing), or 90% clean (would be proud to show mom, but still obvious that someone actively lives in this room and no maids have been employed). It’s never 85% clean or 80% clean, so it’s pretty easy to make this judgment call.
I’ll call today Day 1, and will note that today I have failed to keep my space 90% clean. I’m at 0%.
