be more generous

gave up something I wanted today with no complaints.

A friend of mine was going to give me his bike, but I’d have to go up north to get it. His dad, who needs a new bike, has gotten attached it. So I told my friend, who was terrified I’d be disappointed, that if his dad wanted to keep it that was fine- I could have used the parts for a frame I’m building up and it would have saved me some serious cash, but better it get used all in one piece by someone who wants it as is.

But it seemed more sensible to let his dad have it. I guess I’m not as bad off as I thought and I’m on the right track!

I tie generosity and money together, when in fact time can be a valuable contribution. Many folks have invited me to dinner and paid for me- something I don’t always like, because I don’t enjoy feeling like a mooch. This can affect my mood and make me a less desirable dinner partner.

I can’t afford to do things for people that I’d like. I can’t get my folks the birthday gifts I feel they deserve, for instance, and that makes me mad.

But I’ve made some small steps- gave away a Livestrong band and refused the dollar back for example. That’s big for me in my current situation!
