Duvall Library 1 month ago

A library in a converted house, or possibly what was once a business years ago, Duvall library has wood floors, and a very homey feel. When we visited, on 3:00 pm on a weekday, all of the computers were busy. The library is right next to a bookstore, which I thought was a fun combination. Located right downtown, it is close to everything. The staff was very friendly, and I enjoyed the slightly funky atmosphere.

Foster Library 2 months ago

Had to return some books while on vacation so we popped by the Foster Library, just up the hill from Southcenter. Right next to Foster High School, this is a cute little neighborhood library with Northwest themed clay tiles on the outside, and windows that have been painted (stained glass? couldn’t tell) with scenes of Northwest scenery featuring animals as well as mountains and trees.

Very light and airy inside, in spite of it’s small size this is a great library – although I bet it’s crazy busy and zoolike when school gets out!

Auburn Library 8 months ago

I was in the neighborhood for something else, and stopped by the Auburn library. One of the most amazing things was all the new fiction books they had on the shelves. Most libraries have some, but this library was packed with shiny new fiction.

I could tell this library had been recently remodeled as well, it was very light inside. A very nice neighborhood library.

Covington Library 10 months ago

This is a beautiful library that was remodeled in 2007. Some of the nicest features are the ceiling, which has exposed beams, the gigantic wall of windows looking out into a small pine forest, and a radiant heater “fireplace” surrounded by round tables and chairs for studying, reading, hanging out.

I also thought the way the space is divided into the kids area, teen nook (with a great little corner window space) quite rooms and a public area where the library can hold a library-wide event was well done. Hundreds of little lights on thin wires, give it an airy, almost fairytale feel.

The whole library felt nicely integrated, and like it flowed well, even with all the separate spaces. Oh, and lots of fabulous books!

An excellent public space, and I’m glad I visted.

Bellevue Library 10 months ago

So, today I went to the Bellevue Library. It is the largest library in the King County System. (Seattle Public is a different system, FYI). I am there a lot. For several reasons. Heh.

It is a beautiful library, with maple wood and concrete, and a lot of windows. One of the nicest recent additions is the red paint on many of the walls, which warms the library up considerably. The plants scattered here and there also warm the library, and make it feel homey. Another fun feature is all the small book displays scattered through the library. This library has one of the coolest Storytime Rooms ever! Kids actually have their own entrance – through a short tunnel lined with hand-painted tiles featuring patrons favorite kids’ books.

My favorite book as a kid was ‘The Pokey Little Puppy’.
