....my german studies got interupted over the summer by personal events, so i wound up registering for 5 ct hrs of BOTH German and Hebrew !
i’ve found them both so fascinatingm but languages are taught so differently than they were at UC ten years back. No grammar / verb conjucation drills, all the homework is thru CDRoms, and much more emphasis on listening & comprehension…learning words and phrases as a child would. Its been tougher to do well for me…
Thus, thought i’d compile a list of all the languages i’ve taken classes in so far. Not fluent yet; Italian still tops the list of the language i want to go further in learning….
(in order of first studied)
- Spanish
- French
- Latin
- Italian
- German
- Hebrew
strange…it feels like there’s been more than that. I guess i’ve dabbled around with learning japanese kanji and gaelic words, along with lots of freelance study of etymology and linguistics…now just to work some Sanskrit studies in there…

‘Was just review my list of goals, and which ones i have neglected for a long time. Last time i had looked around, i couldnt find anything, class-wise, that would allow me to pursue this further, other than college classes (at @ $750 a pop) or language immersion programs (definately outta my price range for now). So it seemed indefinately back-burnered to make any progress…
But today, in a fit of optimism, i thot i google again for something in the area,,,,,and ~Hallelujah!, here’s a whole center just up the road Devoted to teaching Italian by native speakers of italian ! They offer classes in four different levels (which is much more than even UC does), and CEU’s awarded at the end of each class. $200.oo for ten weeks of classes: very very do-able even for a broke-sort like me. Che Meraviglioso ! T’will definately sign up for Spring session,,,dont think i can swing the Winter session (which starts in week) $$$-wise just right now. But hey, ‘Tis Grande!!

the top choices for “fluency” are Italian, Latin, Japanese, Sanskrit, biblical Hebrew & Gaellic. I have already studied spanish, french, italian & abit of Latin, but i only got the grammar down, not the conversational conjugation schtuff….
