write a book

I’ve designated today to be writing day. And I have so much to write about – but no real plan on how its all going to come out. I alread have another idea for another story, but I’m forcing myself to focus on the one.

Well, I took a bit of a break. But I needed it, so I’m letting myself have that one without the guilt. But I’m back to focusing on my goals again. Wrote two pages today. That puts me at 52 pages. Hopefully within the next couple of months I’ll have twice as much, and a richer plot. This is the only story I’m letting myself work on right now. I’ve had this story in my head forever, and I feel its time just to get it all out and completed.

I’ve been working on the back stories of my main characters lately. It’s helping me to understand who they are, and how they got where they are. I have about four pages done so far. I don’t know how much I am going to incorporate into my main story, but I know that having well developed characters will make it much easier to write. So … hoping this will work.

I have time to write at work now – so hopefully I can make some progress.

Just past 43 pages on my first story. Wrote 5 pages today and felt a little tired after. I started to think that if I am going to make it to 300 I am going to have to build some endurance.

Finally feel the story taking shape. Started with a concept, and now I can feel it forming into something real. Just trying to stay with the story and resisting the urge to revise it just now.

Taking a break for the moment, but hope to get some more writing done later today. It seems Saturdays and Sundays have become the days when I can get the most done – so I’m trying to take advantage of the free time all I can.

After doing some rereading – I’ve decided I need to spend a little more time getting to know my characters. Where are they from? What are their families like? What makes them unique? I may not record every little detail, but I think it will help me figure out what motivates them and make the story more three-dimensional.

5 pages – not a whole lot in a weeks time, but its a start. Starting to get focused again, and stick to it, despite my days when I feel less than inspired.

I’m hoping in the end it will all come together.

Decided to take the time off just to write today. So far I’ve added one page to my story. Hopefully I’ll keep the momentum and get a lot done.

This is one of the first stories I’ve started, and there’s a lot I want to write, so I know that it will take a lot of time and probably be very long. My tactic is to just write the whole thing and then go back and revise. I know that if I revise every 10 pages or so, I will lose the flow of writing and will probably get stuck.

So for now – just writing :)

Last I left off I had about 50 pages of one story and 25 of another – then life caught up to me and I didn’t have the time to continue.

I really want to finish the two stories, as I have some others I would like to start, but I want to finish these two first. Hopefully I will have them both completed by the end of the year.

I’m not the type of writer that can write here and there. I really have to set aside at least 3 hours. Its like a little ritual that I’ve created. Relax/meditate. Read a good book for inspiration – then write. Lately I haven’t been taking the time to do this, as I’ve been wrapped up in other stuff, but I really want to start writing again.

I’ll be out of town for a couple of days. I figure this will be a good time to relax and get some writing done.
