do volunteer work

Always wanted to do this and it was surprisingly easy. All I had to do was sign up for a local event for a non-profit I believed in. It was actually fun and I met a lot of neat people – think I will be helping them from now on whenever they have their fundraisers!

I should look more up about volunteering… I would love to do something with literacy, but the programs I have been running into need several months of commitment. I travel a lot and don’t have a dependable schedule. Should dig a little deeper and see if there’s another way to help with my sporadic time.

So I was thinking – my friend’s mom used to work downtown teaching immigrants to read and write in English.

If anything, maybe I could volunteer one day a week, a couple of hours or so, teaching the same. After all, I was an immigrant once, too. :) Maybe I could finally brush up my Spanish skills and both parties can benefit! Either way, volunteering makes you feel good. :) Anyways, I e-mailed this non-profit place and asked them if they still needed volunteers (or if they were hiring)... so, that’s a first step!

I always thought I would like to volunteer… I have a few penpals in other countries that I have never met.. I guess volunteering to me means helping people, whether it is mentally or physically. It is nice to get a connection with someone, a connection that makes the both of you feel better. I would like to volunteer on a more physical level, too. Sometimes I feel like it takes a back seat to my other priorities, as I feel like I have to be on dry, level ground to help someone out of the water. Either way a couple of weekend projects wouldn’t hurt. I guess this could also be classified under my change the world for the better goal. :)
