Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Never thought it would happen

All I can say is you just have to pick up and do it! It’s really amazing. The people are pretty nice along the way. I think one of our favorite towns is Seligman!

It's in the works.

II’m surprised. I was able to actually have time to sit down with my boyfriend last night and start working out the plan to our trip! We even called a few motels to get rates and see what else was out there. We’re amazed and can’t wait to go on the trip. My other half will still need to fix his car, but it’s slowly becoming a reality. We have excel spreadsheets for each state and a list of the cities that we want to go through and things to do in each as well as important info, such as addresses, numbers and cost. (Though a few states have nothing under them, just yet!)

Yesterday, most of the time was spent on figuring out distance and stops, and planning the trip around the International Balloon Festival. I think we’ve planned out 2-ish days, one in Memphis and the other in Tucumcari, NM. We learned about legends (the way Tucumcari was named) and also spoke with a few locals at the motels, where one suggested we go to the “neat-o historical museum.” We looked it up and it is crazy – like a flea market, but a museum. I had trouble stopping, because I wanted to keep discovering new places to see. So, that’s a little down, and a lot more to go. Our goal is to have it planned out by the end of the month! That would be AWESOME!!!

Ok. So I am getting scared,

as the time approaches for the BIG trip. I should call that from now on – the BIG trip. I like that. :)

Right now, the plan is to head out towards the end of September, in time to catch the huge hot air balloon festival in NM in the beginning of October.

Excel sheets are being prepared… Hey, we’re on a VERY tight budget and still in the planning phases of the trip. The plan is two casual weeks to LA.

All I wanted to say is that I am excited, scared shitless, and more anxious than I have ever been to make the big move. There are so many things that need to be taken care of before we go… so we’re working around the clock. But IT WILLBE DONE!
