to 4 people regularly, 3 of them I have been corresponding with for over 3 years. I love penpals, in part because it gives me an opportunity to use my stationery and fancy pens, but mostly because I love the connection; it’s unreal that these 4 people are such a significant part of my life, and I’ve only ever met one of them. It’s also a great way to practice a language – my friend in Belgium says that when we started corresponding it took him an hour to decode my convoluted French, which he can now read with relative ease (thanks in large part to his tutelage).
