In buying furnishings for my apartment, I’m trying to get stuff from thrift stores and garage sales. It saves money, but it’s also a way to reuse things that could become trash, so it fits my definition of living simply: living with what is rather than continuously consuming new things.
Before I graduated from college, I spent the year going through my things and throwing stuff out/donating it to charity. It made things so much easier come June, and I felt very free when it came time to pack up what was left of my belongings. My mom taught me the mantra “when it doubt, throw it out,” and I tried to apply that ruthlessly.
I’ve also been trying to consume more produce and less processed food.
