I was reminded of my grandmother a lot today. Cherries and sunshine.
She was a tough broad, had moxie. She spoke her mind and put up with very little B.S. in all its various forms. She was honest, and a hard worker, and she had sort of a racy sense of humor. Just on the cusp of indecency – but not quite. She loved to read, she loved to sing, and she loved people. She was generous and treated everyone she met with kindness and respect. She always set her hair in curlers at night, and she never left the house without putting on her face and walking into a light cloud of Chanel No. 5 so that the scent would linger, faintly, close to her skin for the rest of the day. She was an amazing cook, and she loved her husband. They gave each other hell into the twilight of their lives. She was beautiful, strong, and smart.
I wish with everything in me to become even half the woman she was.
