I recently eliminated about 50% of our linen closet and donated the excess to the Rescue Mission downtown. It felt good and the closet isn’t overflowing with stuff anymore- it’s actually an attractive place to put our things now.

I have many more closets and cupboards and a big pantry to go, but this was a nice start.

Learning to say "no"... 10 months ago

is easier said than done. I’m back to volunteering at church and I’m not sure I want to be. I can think of lots of practical reasons that it’s good to do, but it’s really just one more thing on my plate.

I know that we should look outside of ourselves and concentrate on others to really do the things that God has asked of us, but my attitude isn’t the best right now. I dumped so much into things at church for the last 4 years that I simply dont want to anymore…I’m burnt out.

Update:
Oh, look at me! How selfish am I? I’m complaining about an hour and a half once a week of sitting in a room with a bunch of kids (one of them being mine) and watching a video about Jesus! I should be ashamed…

It's quite possible.... 11 months ago

that we have too much stuff. Too many clothes in our closets make for more laundry, too many toys make for a messy house, and too many things to do make for too many choices and no clear direction for the day.

I am going to get rid of some of my clothes that I no longer wear or that no longer fit right. (I have a pair of pants in mind, specifically!) And I think I’ll pack away some of our towels and glasses. We have a ton of both of those, as well.

I keep an electronic calendar... 11 months ago

on the computer. I have for the last 5+ years. I love it. I can scroll through to anydate I want and it’s totally customizeable. (sp?) I keep everyone’s appointments on it, I remind myself about birthdays and dates. I dont’ know if I would do as well as I do without it.

First things first.

What are the big things that need to be done? School, meals, cleaning, Bible time, playing with the kids, exercise… Those things should come first. Not TV, computer, phone calls, naps… Those are the extras that can be added into a day that has fufilled all the BIG things already.

Do one thing at a time. No more multi-tasking. Put all my mind and actions into what I’m doing at the moment. Acknowledge it fully and enjoy it.

Joyce Meyer 11 months ago

wrote a new book all about simplifying life. I’m going to make a home study out of it. Read it, take notes, break it down, apply it to my life. I’m excited, now I only need to find the time! (ironic, huh?)
