Got my braces off 2 weeks ago, and it is absolutely amazing. So worth the 2 years. If you’re thinking about getting braces, and if your teeth hold you back in any way, just go for it. You won’t be disappointed. Plus, having braces actually makes you rather cute!

I went to my company holiday party a few weeks back and took a ton of pictures with my open-mouth, braces smile and I looked so good! It was my first time really smiling for the camera and it felt amazing. Should be just a few more months until the braces come off.
My teeth are getting there! They seemed to have moved a lot in the last few months. It’s hard to believe that I’m actually going to need braces for another 9 months. That’s me being hopeful, but I hear my orthodontist is a perfectionist (which I guess is a good thing!).
I have braces.
I’ve been out of the 43things loop for a bit-mostly adjusting to this new part of my life-eating smoothies and mashed potatoes and brushing my teeth 5 times a day. And nurturing my new braces blog>

is the big day when I get the braces on! Maybe I should have a smoothie and pudding party to celebrate!
I could be one year away from straight teeth. Wow! I had my second follow-up consultation with the orthodontist today. It looks like if I get braces, to my surprise (a good surprise!), it will only take a year for straight teeth. I could do the Invisalign as well, but it takes much longer and, even then, he said I may have to wear braces at the end of treatment for a few months just to perfect everything. This doesn’t do much for helping me go out on a date in the next month, but, in a year…watch out!
My first consultation was several months ago, so I’m a bit slow. But the orthodontist kind of weirded me out a bit and he was very disorganized. He told me his office would follow-up in 2 weeks and I’ve never heard from him since. I thought it was me just being afraid or procrastinating. So, this past week, I went for a second opinion to someone my friend recommended. She has Invisalign (even though she really didn’t need it, but she is an actress and the more perfect, the better!) In any case, this second Doctor (“Dr. M”) was great. He happened to know the 1st guy I went to and forbade me to go back there. He even said he would give me a list of orthodontists to go to before he let me go back there. Wow! I didn’t realize it was that bad. So, on the spot, at the consultation, I made the decision to do it and get braces. They took molds of my teeth—both for regular braces and Invisalign. I’ll go back in a few weeks and find out what option is best for me. Surprisingly, I’m not so nervous if I have to get regular braces. I guess I’ve been wanting this for SO LONG, that what’s another year or two with braces, right?
This morning I finally made it to the orthodontist for a consultation. After years of fear-fear of being an adult with braces, not being able to pay for the treatment, etc., I made the first step. The doctor was a bit wacky-I’m not sure if our personalities mix that well (and do I really want to be with this guy for the next two years?). He told me I could get any kind of braces I wanted, including Invisalign. After the molds it takes about 6 weeks for me to receive my first Invisalign inserts (which is what I’m leaning towards). I plan on doing a few more days of research, a few more journal entries about the pros and cons, about how to budget this and then I’m going for it! If you have any words of wisdom about braces, do tell!
