I got information back from the archives and finally resolves an important part of my genealogy which always perplexed me. Jacobus David according to my records had two sons called Petrus Jacobus Pieterse. That had always been strange to me! Why two sons in the same family? Later I found records that named all the sons but not the oldest Petrus Jacobus. Finally the records of the archive showed that I was not related to the eldest as I always thought based on the original records but that I am related to the youngest of the two sons. More specific it indicates that the oldest son probably never existed and that the original published records were simply in error. It does not change the family tree significantly…but at least now one mystery is solved.

I got some information on Petrus Jacobus Pieterse when I found the will of his one son. According to this document he lived at Karelsaanleg in the Rouxville district. A clue well worth following up on.
I found out today that one of the brothers of my fourth great grandfather participated in the battle of blood river in 1838
