First 23 Hours

I am now close to completing the first 24 hours of the conversion process. I think it’s going really well at the moment. I am getting into the little naps. In fact on my last one at 4 am I woke up by myself, seconds before the alarm went off telling me my 20 minutes is up. I feel tired. Granted. I wasn’t expecting anything different throughout the first week. But I am establishing a firm routine here and I sense that my brain is already readjusting.

I feel a great sense of motivation. In my past experiments with sleep deprivation I could hardly stay awake and it would have been impossible for me to get up once asleep. However because I see the benefits of going through with this I am almost afraid of oversleeping. (Oversleeping on one of the naps during the transition period is almost as good as going to bed for the night.) I have another nap coming up in about hour and a half and I am looking forward to it…big time!

Its a beautiful sunrise outside!!!

Day 1

As promised today I will start my conversion. This process will take about 10 days minimum and I will keep making entries each day so that any one who wants to try it can see what it’s like. It’s not going to be easy. This week I am meant to be attending a dance class and doing so half awake might prove either very funny or very humiliating.

Anyway, I have decided to go with the “traditional” Ubermen which means a nap every 4 hours for 20 minutes around the clock. I have decided to nap at these times: 8am, 12pm, 4pm, 8pm, 12am, 4am. The idea is that by the end of this week my brain will start noticing that I do not get enough sleep to go through all of the stages, so it will start REM phase as soon as I close my eyes.

The first week will be very similar to the sleep deprivation goal. So, having learned my lessons I will now make a list of things that I should complete during this time:

- Finish reading the Red Queen

- Clean up my room (desk especially)

- List the things to buy for College/Uni

- Keep a dream diary (they get quite vivid)

- Finish reading Three Musketeers

- Watch my National Geographic/History Channel documentaries

- Post up all of the photos on FaceBook

- Start thinking about the content of my ebook

- Take photos with my new camera

- Help my Dad write the home/school/parent agreement (He has been asking me for ages)

- Go through the rest of my seminar videos (and learn)

- Over come my AA

- Attend a Dance Class

- Sort out accommodation and finance for College/Uni

- Sort out my Film/Music library

- Relieve my Sansa Fuze of the songs I don’t listen to

- Find more Indie bands

- Sort out my wardrobe

- Practice maths with my brother

- Find a long term project for College/Uni

- Practice programming ( AHK, Java)

- Play basketball

- Make my bed!

I realise that this is quite a long list but probably not long enough (you have no idea what it means to be awake 22 hours a day) so if any one has any suggestions for creative and effective ways to spend time I would greatly appreciate it.

This list will become my reference point so that any time I’m not doing anything worth while I can look at it and get back to work. It is for this reason that I will probably expand it at some point.

I feel extremely excited by the prospects of the week ahead. I know it won’t be easy but the rewards are great. Think about. I will be getting 49 hours of extra awake time every week (at sleeping 9h a night). YEAH!!

Let the games begin!!!

I wanted to do this for some time now but never had the time. I was always “busy”. Now that I’m on my summer break I have enough obligation free time (I should be looking for a job really). It takes about 2-3 weeks to convert and from the accounts I have read it’s not an easy feat. But that’s why I want to do it. I want to be able to say that I’ve tried it.

Tomorrow exam results come out so I don’t expect I will be starting till the beginning of next week. Let me make it official: I will start this challenge on Monday!

The thought of having so much free time on my hands is rather scary. On top of that the first week of this conversion is accompanied by heavy hallucinations, but that is something that I am greatly looking forward to. I will keep posting my experiences as I go through with it. Will it be worth it? Only time will tell!!
