Blue Tuesday

Lower body weight workout before work this morning – felt really good.

The only cloud on the horizon is that my weight has gone up another half a Kg, and I really have no idea why. how depressing.

Day 3

Monday. It’s a public holiday, so a good opportunity to get into the gym again this morning. Did my usual 45 min cardio workout (15 min treadmill, 15 min bike and 10 min rotary row).

My quads and calves are still sore from Saturday, and that, combined with my current lack of fitness, meant that my heart rate went up really fast, and at one point on the treadmill , I got a high heart rate warning.

The scale hasn’t budged since yesterday. I’m confident that if I keep this up, it will.

Day 2

Wow – what a weakling butterball I have become. I could hardly move this morning when I wanted to get out of bed. Good pain, though – it means that I did something worthwhile.

Also, my weight went up almost a Kg – I’m assuming that it is the muscle reaction to suddenly having to work again after so much procrastination.

Since I have been on hormone medication, for the first time ever, I have gained a lot of fat around my middle – it’s really nasty. I would feel it there when I was on the leg press machine yesterday – yuck.

Cardio workout tomorrow (when I can walk)...

Day 1

Yesterday was day 1. My weight was 75.1 Kg, so my goal is 67Kg. Not the least I have ever weighed, but I’ll take it.

I did a full weight workout at the gym (being Saturday morning, I had no time restriction), and managed to eat a healthy diet all day.

About me

My BMI is currently 26.9 (eeek!). 2 years ago, it was 22.9, and I was relatively fit, going to the gym 4 – 6 times per week, doing a combination of resistance training and cardio, and following a healthy diet.

I am 45 years old, and a year and a half ago, I underwent a total hysterectomy (because of a cancer risk highlighted by a routine checkup). Because my ovaries were also removed, I have been on HRT since then, and my weight just keeps going up. The surgery, two kidney infections, and the fact that my work is a 1.5 hour drive from home during peak traffic, have all made a serious dent in my exercise routine.

At my age, my medication, weight gain and work stress are a dangerous cocktail that I have to do something about. I figure that committing to it on 43 things will help me stick to it.

I know how to exercise, and I know how to eat in a healthy way. If I want to lose 8Kg (and boy, do I want to!), I need to make the difficult journey back to the good habits I had a few years ago.
