Saw Walk the Line yesterday, and I still can’t find the words to describe the movie. “Good” and “amazing” don’t even begin to do it justice. Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon… I can only say, “Wow”, and shake my head. I am quite certain that this is-and will remain-the best movie I have seen all year; this belief is especially surprising, given that all my interests run counter to the movie’s setting, time period, and subject. For me, this just deepens the movie’s achievements.
Ergo the urge to rewatch Quills. I first noticed Phoenix in 8MM, then despised his Commodus (not his acting!) in Gladiator, and then really admired his Coulmier in Quills. I saw Quills when it first came out on DVD and absolutely loved it. I was also disturbed all weekend too, but heh. Being disturbed is a good thing ;)
