I was doing the goal of recording a DAILY happy thing. I don’t ever have the time for doing much of anything daily – at least not something that requires getting online.
Here’s my previous entries for the DAILY goal:
Day 2 – My Bed
October 27, 2011
This bed is seriously the best bed in the world. It was wellll worth the $ for the extras… Memory foam with an aloe-infused pillow top. Invested in some fancy high thread-count sheets that I try to dry on the line outside after they’ve done washing (when I can & weather permits). Down-alternative pillows & comforter as well as my grandmother’s quilt.
My bedroom is my sanctuary. The ONLY quiet place in a house of toddlers… And the bed is the center of it.
New goal: To use this space more often. Maybe after these babies get big enough to start ignoring me, and hiding out in their own bedrooms lol.

Day 1 – The Smell of my Home
October 19, 2011
After returning this morning from an overnight trip I was greeted at the door by the amazing scent that can only be described as “home”.
If I had to describe it I’d say it’s a bit vanilla, cloves, lavender, pine-sol, and that certain something that makes it mine.
My memories are very connected to smells – and from what I know, this is quite common. And though I don’t smell them everyday, I’d recognize each scent and a corresponding memory in a second. The smell of my newborn baby’s head and the sun streaming bright through the nursery window on that first day at home. My husband’s “smell” and how when I hugged him for the last time before his deployment, I longed to bottle it up. Instead, whenever I missed him I’d open his closet and climb in between the clothes, press my face against the fabrics and BREATHE him in. Another is my mother’s kitchen and our talks late into the night. My first new car and the feeling of absolute freedom.
But the end all of smells – my home. Because it combines the best of all these scents into one place, where it waits to greet me after a long day.
